Leading the Way for Public Safety

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Advisory Foundation is a non-profit, public benefit corporation formed to provide funding and additional support to the Sheriff's Department. The Sheriff's Advisory Foundation started in 1988 with 22 members and has grown to more than 200 active members.

The Sheriff's Advisory Foundation has been successful in augmenting and supporting local law enforcement agencies, G.R.E.A.T (Gang Resistance Education and Training) program and auxiliary units by providing funding for training and needed equipment. A scholarship fund has been set up for college students entering the field of law enforcement, and for children of officers killed or disabled in the line of duty.

A long-term goal of the Sheriff's Advisory Foundation is to provide enhanced, quality training to law enforcement in San Luis Obispo County.

What's New

The New Behavioral Health Unit to support mentally ill inmates is underway at the jail!

The SAF is raising private funds for the BHU which will allow the unit to be operational sooner than going through the County government procurement process. An initial lead gift of $50k was provided by the SAF and as of April 25th approximately $272k has been committed towards the estimated $500k needed. These donations will help bring the facility online by the end of the year.
